Compassion - “A feeling of deep sympathy and sorrow for another who is stricken by misfortune, accompanied by a strong desire to alleviate the suffering.”
I believe people fall into 1 of 4 categories when it comes to compassion: 1) Have been desensitized to the needs of others. 2) Can’t think about the needs of others due to their own suffering. 3) Have the mindset, “someone else should do something.” or 4) Show compassion to others.
We, as Christ followers, are most like (Christlike - Christian) our Savior and Lord when we demonstrate compassion. Jesus has not only given us the ministry of reconciliation (cf. 2 Cor. 5:18-19), but that of compassion too. Often, compassion must come before others can hear the good news of reconciliation. The church (those born again) is now Jesus’ hands, feet, ears and mouth to our family, friends, neighbors, world and enemies (cf. Luke 6: 35). Jesus was always “moved with compassion,” all the way to the cross! Compassion. Which of the four categories listed above do you fall into? I’m just asking! Let the Spirit lead!
In His Service,
Pastor Rodney
