    God is on your side!

    July 15, 2022

Have you heard the expression “I’ve got your back?”  What does that mean?  Essentially a second set of eyes.  It is the equivalent of saying “I will look out for you.”  A person saying they have your back means they are there to help you out, they are a second set of eyes and hands for you.

If you are fortunate you might have one or two family members or friends who looks out for you, but you might be on your own, or at least feel at times like you are on your own.  But even if you have that rare individual who “has your back”, they can’t compare to your creator - the LORD!

Godly men and women down through the ages and in the Bible understood this - “if it had not been the LORD who was on “our” side - if it had not been the LORD who was on “my” side,…they would have swallowed us alive!” (cf. Psalm 124)  Listen, God is on your side, not against you!  But you have to be on His side.  Jesus said, “he who is not with Me is against Me.” (cf. Matthew 12:30)  Jesus came and died for “your” sins so that you might have eternal life!  I would say that qualifies Jesus “having your back!”  But Jesus came not only so that you could have eternal life but to help you journey through this life!   As Paul penned in 2 Corinthians 4, “We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed” (vv. 8,9) - why?  Because God is on your side!

The prophet Jeremiah acknowledged this as he penned “through the LORD’S mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not.  They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.  The LORD is my portion, says my soul.  Therefore I hope in Him!” (Lamentations 3: 22-24)

Thus says the LORD of hosts “for I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you and future and a hope!” (Jeremiah 29:11)

“What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?!” (Romans 8:31)

God loves you!  He is on your side!  You are not alone - He has your back!

What a comfort and blessing to know that “our help is in the name of the LORD, who made heaven and earth.” (Psalm 124)

And all God’s people said, “Amen!”
