    Holiness

    January 13, 2017

“Holiness”   God is Holy.  God’s Word is Holy (Holy Bible).  Holy men of God, through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit penned the Holy Bible.  God the Son, Jesus, the second person of the Trinity is Holy.  Heaven is a Holy place comprised of Holy people.  God has called His people to be Holy.

I am not writing on the topic of Holiness as if I have it perfected, I too, like Isaiah, when I comprehend the Holiness of God can only fall to my knees and admit, “Woe is me, for I am undone!  Because I am a man of unclean lips, And dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; For my eyes have seen the King, The Lord of hosts.” (cf. Isaiah 6)

When God’s people were led out of Egypt from the bondage of slavery, God told Moses to say to the children of Israel, “You shall be holy, for I the Lord your God am holy.” (cf. Leviticus 19)   God expected His people, who were called my His name to reflect His character.  Yes, we are now living in that period of grace, under the new covenant, but the theme of holiness continues.  Peter reminds us, “…as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance; but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, because it is written, ‘Be holy, for I am holy.’” (cf. 1 Peter 1:14)   God has not only rescued us from the penalty of sin through Jesus Christ, but He has empowered us through the Holy Spirit to walk in newness of life.   What does that new walk look like? - Christlikeness, consecrating our lives daily to Him.  I have to examine myself daily, and ask the question  - am I more like Jesus today, than when I first believed?
