I must admit that fresh into this New Year I find myself somewhat anxious of what this year will bring to me, my family, the church, our Nation, and the world. As a Christ follower, I must keep reminding myself that I am a person of faith, faith as defined in Hebrews 11 - “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen…By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.” God has given me many great examples of people of faith in my short life, many whom have gone on to their eternal reward. God has also given you and me many examples of people of faith in His Word. One of those great patriarchs of faith was Moses. But Moses’ faith didn’t come automatic, his faith had to be developed, tested and matured - which I take encouragement from. Moses spent the first 40 years of his 120 years as the prince of Egypt. He spent the next 40 years as a fugitive and shepherd. At 80 years of age he received his calling, but unlike Abram (cf. Genesis 12), he didn’t automatically move out in faith. Moses had questions and real concerns, like: “who am I that I should go?” — “what shall I say?” - “what if they will not believe or listen?” - “I am slow of speech!”, and finally “send someone else.” (cf. Exodus chapters 3 & 4) I too, like Moses, find myself asking the wrong questions going into a very uncertain New Year.
I think God’s response to Moses’ questions, is His response to you and me in this New Year of such instability and uncertainty - “I AM WHO I AM”
The Great “I AM” is All sufficient for 2017 and beyond!
In His Service,
Pastor Rodney
