The bible says, “for the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God!’
I love that old hymn, ‘At the Cross’ by Isaac Watts, “at the cross, at the cross where I first saw the light, and the burden of my heart rolled away, it was there by faith I received my sight, and now I am happy all the day!”
Ella Hill once said about death, “the old must and the young might.”
Death is coming to all some day, are you prepared?! Kelvin Kiptum (and his coach) died in a tragic car accident this past week. He was the world record holder for the marathon (26.2 miles) with a time of 2:00:35 (4:35 per mile pace), which he set at the Chicago Marathon last October - he was only 24 years old - “the young might.” I am sure Kelvin did not wake up that morning knowing this was his last day on earth. My heart and prayers goes out to his family and friends. I don’t know what Kelvin’s faith was but I know that he is in the hands of a just and righteous God who has lavishly poured out His love for all of humankind via the cross. Life has many tragic stories and burdens. There is no heavier burden than that of the lose of life. The good news of the Bible is that Jesus conquered the grave and death at the cross! Some day God is going to end time as we know it and usher in eternity for all eternity - that is the good news of the gospel. That is why we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ, not just on Easter but each and every day! The thing that terrifies people more than anything is death, but when we receive Jesus Christ as our personal Savior and Lord, death holds no more fear. We can echo those words of the apostle Paul, “for me to live is Christ and to die is again”, “O death where is your victory? O death where is your sting?”, “but thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
You may never win a Super Bowl, you may never set a world record, but you can have the victory, in life and death - only trust Him!
My prayer is that we can all say amen to “I will trust Him - in life and death!
