    Knowing God's Will

    April 24, 2018

“Knowing God’s Will”  - that’s a big topic, even for this 56 year old!   As I reflect on my life up to this point in my journey, can I say I knew and did God’s will every step of the way?  The answer would be,  “No.”   There have been times that I have been out of the will of God, and there have been times when I really could not discern God’s will.  Even though God is Sovereign, His will is not always accomplished.  For instance, the Bible says that He is, “not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.” (cf. 2 Peter 3: 9)   God will not force His will on us, but it is His will that humankind accept His Son - Jesus Christ.  It is His will that we become His disciples.  It is His will that we be sanctified.  It is His will that we spend an eternity in heaven.  But what about the day to day stuff - where the “rubber meets the road?”   Is God’s will active in our day to day life?   And does that mean if I am in God’s perfect will that I will avoid suffering?  We only to have to look to the Bible for the answers.  The world in its present fallen state will always have suffering and tribulation, but there is coming a day when God said He will make all things new!

(cf. Revelation 21)  But until then, we continue to walk in faith, doing our best to align our will with God’s will and trusting in Him for the outcome.  We continue to read His word, pray and ask for the leading of the Holy Spirit, so that, when we come to a place that “we have not passed this way before” we can step out in faith with full assurance that our God has gone before us and He will make a way, and even help us to conquer our “Jericho!”

    (cf. Joshua 3)
