    Let it Be

    February 3, 2022

    “Let it Be”

“When I find myself in times of trouble, Mother Mary comes to me speaking words of wisdom, let it be.  And in my hour of darkness she is standing right in front of me speaking words of wisdom, let it be.

Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be.  Speaking words of wisdom, let it be. And when the broken hearted people living in the world agree, there will be an answer, let it be.” - lyrics Paul McCartney/John Lennon

When “Let it Be” was released on March 6th, 1970, I was only 8 years old.  Now at 60 years of age, this song is still popular.  At 60 I’m facing temptations that I didn’t encounter at 8 years of age.  There are a lot more “voices” trying to speak wisdom into my life.  But what I must decide is it human wisdom or godly wisdom?  Yes, it is good to seek counsel of others, but at the end of the day it is the wisdom from above that will stand.  That is why Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 2 “your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.” (v.5)

Jesus said, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away” (Matt 24:35).  Knowing and submitting to God’s will for our lives is not always easy!  Many things and people cross our paths that temp us to submit to our flesh and human wisdom, but we must stop and ask “what is God’s will in this circumstance or situation?” - and that is not always easy.  If we are honest with ourselves we would say “sometimes I don’t always like or believe God’s will for my life!”  There are many examples in the Bible to what I am saying.  The annunciation of Jesus birth (cf. Luke 1: 26-38) to Mary was not easy to take for Mary nor Joseph.  Mary’s initial response in the flesh was “how can this be?”  But Mary’s final response in the spirit was “let it be to me according to Your word.” -

“with God nothing will be impossible!”

Sometimes we need to get away from all the noice and get alone with the Lord so we can hear that “still small voice” of His spirit.  That same spirit just might be asking the question “what are you doing?” (cf. 1 Kgs 19: 13).

God help us to respond like Mary -

“let it be to me according to Your word!”
