Living in the shadow of the Cross

    March 29, 2024

The bible says in 1 Corinthians 15 that “…Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures,…” (vv.3-4) - that is the good news of the gospel!  Have you personally reviewed the good news?!

The bibles says “that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, YOU WILL BE SAVED!” (cf. Romans 10: 9).

That was a big moment in your life when you first believed!  We all have big moments in our lives.  Some of those moments may in the form of some crisis or a special accomplishment or goal achieved.  It might come in form of loss or pain, but we all have big moments or defining moments in our lives.  There is no bigger moment than when you first believed though.  Although salvation is free, it came with a cost - the cost of the cross.  Jesus lived His life under the shadow of the cross.  Jesus, the Son of God as the Son of man had a human mind, a human will, human sensations.  He felt as we do.  Tempted in all points as us - yet without sin.

When we think of a shadow we should think in relation to close proximity. A tree’s shade provides relief from the sun only when you’re under it. When we come to Christ we should continue to live under the shadow of the cross.  The shadow of the cross reminds me of my personal surrender to the Lordship of Christ.  The shadow of the cross reminds me of my reconciliation to God.  The shadow of the cross reminds me of my intimate fellowship with Jesus.  The shadow of the cross reminds me of safety - “the Lord is my Shepherd!”  The shadow of the cross reminds me of my spiritual victory!   The shadow of the cross reminds me of the living presence of Christ in me, via the Holy Spirit.  The shadow of the cross reminds me that I have the power to live the resurrected life because I am abiding in Him!

The shadow of the cross reminds me that He is coming back again!  Until then, “Jesus, keep me near the cross!”

“Near the cross! O Lamb of God, bring its scenes before me; help me walk from day to day, with its shadow o’er me. Near the cross I’ll watch and wait, hoping, trusting ever, till I see my Savior’s face, leave His presence never.” - Fanny Crosby (1869)

Happy Easter!  Continue to live in the shadow of the cross!
