Memorial Day - a time to remember. A time to remember those who gave their lives for the freedoms that we enjoy. A time to remember loved ones, family and friends that have passed on recently and a long time ago. A time to remember that there is life beyond the grave. A time to remember “thus says the LORD; stand in the ways and see, and ask for the old paths, where the good way is, and walk in it; then you will find rest for your souls.” - Jeremiah 6: 16
It is good, and needful, to remember - not so as to stay in the past, but to help us to live rightly in the present and stay hopeful of the future. A hope not based upon human wisdom, but a sure and steadfast hope, based upon the solid foundation of God’s eternal word - the Bible. “For this reason,” Paul said, “I will not be negligent to remind you always of these things”
What was the reason? - “the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!” What is the reminder? - the basics of the christian hope!
Robert Driskell said, “(one) reason our country’s moral climate is degenerating is the failure of Christians (christ followers) to be diligent in our walk with Jesus.” There is some truth to that. Can America rightly be called a Christian Nation?! I can’t answer for America. I can’t answer for those that have gone before me. I can’t answer for you. I can only answer for myself, but those that have gone on before remind me that I will have to give an answer someday to the only one that matters! God’s word in that day will judge me and you. We aren’t to live in fear but in obedience to His word. And when we do, we can count on His promises!
“O Death, where is your sting? O Hades, where is your victory?…but thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord” (1 Corinthians 15: 55-58)
Happy Memorial Day! May we never forget!
God Bless and Godspeed!
