Evangelical Christians would agree that “Christ” is the “reason for the season”, or put another way, “Jesus is the subject.” Although Jesus is the subject, “mankind” is the object of His love - “For God so loved the world that He gave…” (John 3:16) Our appropriate response should be like that of the wise men - “…and fell down and worshipped Him..they presented gifts to Him.” (Matthew 2: 11) Christmas is a time of receiving and giving. I can remember growing up as a young boy getting so excited about the gifts under the tree. There was always one particular gift that I was hoping for - a new set of toy cap guns! Now, as I am approaching “60” years of age, I still have the same excitement for Christmas (although I no longer get my toy cap guns!?). But, I now realize the greatest gift is giving of one’s self - that is, one’s “presence!” It is not so much the tangible gifts or even the meals we share, but each others “presence” that is so priceless! You may no longer have the opportunity to enjoy a certain loved ones presence now because they have passed on or due to health related issues. But, the “Hope” of the gospel is that Jesus is coming back again and we will be reunited again with all those who have died in Christ and He is going to make all things new! So make sure you have received the greatest gift of all - eternal life through Jesus Christ, and in return, give Your Greatest Gift - “You!” Merry Christmas!
