Now what?
That is a good question coming off of Easter. The disciples would have asked the same - now what? They had been through this emotional roller coaster of witnessing Jesus perform miracles, to being crucified on the cross and buried in a tomb to rising from the dead and defeating death!
Now what - would have been the question as they witnessed Jesus’ ascension - “men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the like manner as you saw Him go into heaven.” (Acts 1:11)
Jesus is coming back again the Bible says, but in meantime - what are we to do? We know scripture tells us to be watching and ready, but that doesn’t mean just “gazing up to heaven!” So what are we to do? Jesus articulated very clearly of what we are to do - “go” make disciples!
A disciple is to be a life long follower and learner of Christ, helping others to come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ as their personal Savior and Lord! The great commission Jesus gave to His church is the answer to the “now what?” You might be in an emotional roller coaster right now. You might be in a good place in your life right now or maybe the polar opposite, but that doesn’t change our “now what?” Our commission is to be a way of life. To live in such a way in our sphere of influence, even in our mess, that it influences others to come to Christ! Stay in God’s word! Tell others what you are learning from God’s word. Keep plugged into the local body of believers. Tell your unsaved friends what is going on at church. Living the christian life in our spheres of influence is “going” as Jesus commanded. Jesus never meant life to get in the way of the mission, but to live out the mission in life!
“Go…and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” - Jesus
