“PAID IN FULL!” Those are sweat words. If you have ever had a loan, you know and understand what a blessing those words are. Or, maybe you worked for years to be able to purchase something in cash, you understand what a blessing to pay in full! Something most of us can’t relate to though is someone else paying off our debt. That is just what some anonymous donor(s) did for the Brooklyn church of God. We (the church) had a promissory note that would mature in 2034 and we received a check and letter from an anonymous donor(s) to pay our loan off, with extra going toward maintenance projects. What a blessing, so unexpected! Once we took the check to our lender the loan was paid off and we received those beautiful words in letter form -
“PAID IN FULL!” Had the church not turned the check into our lender the debt would still be owed. Had we just put the check in a nice frame to be displayed the debt would still be owed. We had to apply the check to the debt - I know we all understand this but there is a spiritual application here too.
Well, maybe not all of us have had financial debt. Maybe we have never experienced someone paying off our debt but one thing we all have in common is - we all have a sin debt! Jesus paid that sin debt - PAIN IN FULL! But we must come to Christ to ‘cash the check!’
The bible says “for the wages of sin is death!” You and I have a debt that we cannot pay, only Jesus can pay our sin debt. Yes, ‘the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Ro.6:23)
For those that come to Jesus Christ by faith the Bible promises “He has make alive together with Him…having wiped out the handwriting of requirements against us…taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross!” (cf. Colossians 2: 13-15) - PAIN IN FULL!
What a blessing! What a savior we have in Jesus Christ!
