“Essential Theology in troubling times”
Salvation
“What must I do to be saved? Salvation - from the latin word “salvatio,” means “safe, saved.” “The state of being saved or protected from harm or a dire situation.”
Mankind must realize his/her dire situation - their desperate need to be saved. In Christian Theology, salvation means the deliverance from sin and its consequences. Salvation is made possible by the life, crucifixion, death and resurrection of Jesus.
1 Corinthians 15: 3-4, “For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures.”
John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believed in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
I thank God for simplicity of salvation. God came to man in human form and delivered all who would believe from the penalty and power of sin through repentance and faith in Jesus Christ.
In response to that initial call of salvation, not only is mankind saved from the penalty of sin, but also receives a new nature and identity. Mankind is no longer a member of Adam’s fallen race, but a member of Christ’s body!
Although this salvation is simple, it is also narrow; Christ alone is the way of salvation - “nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12)
“You are worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power;…worthy is the Lamb who was slain..Holy, holy, holy, Lord God almighty!”
