    The Kingdom of God

    April 12, 2021

    Essential Theology for Troubling Times

    The Kingdom of God

“Now when He was asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, He answered them and said, “The kingdom of God does not come with observation; nor will they say, ‘see here or see there!’  For indeed, the kingdom of God is within you.” (Lk 17: 20-21)

The kingdom of God is clearly spiritual in nature.  It is not an earthly geographical place in the future yet to be built; but it is the work of God, present and future.

The kingdom of God is a present work in that when you accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Savior and Lord, and repented of your sins, you entered at that very moment spiritually into the kingdom of God via the new birth.  Jesus said in the gospel of Mark that “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand.  Repent and believe the gospel (1:15).  At that moment you repented and believed the gospel you became part of that eternal community - the family of God!

You became an heir of God; you received direct assess to your heavenly Father.  Now, via the Holy Spirit dwelling within, you can walk obediently to His word.  You can have joy and peace in your heart not matter what earthly circumstances bring.  God now, present tense, reigns and rules in your life - praise the Lord!

The kingdom of God is also a future work. In that God will call an end to time as we know it and usher in eternity for all eternity - all things will be made new.  Therefore, Jesus said not to worry, but instead “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” (Matthew 6:33)

“Tis a kingdom of peace, it is reigning within, it shall ever increase in my soul; we possess it right here when he saves from all sin, and twill last while the ages shall roll!”
