When we were children nothing could dampen the joy and expectation of Christmas! Now that some of us are older, not so much, especially once we’ve suffered loss. If you have children or grandchildren they help keep the flame alive because you see in them the joy you once had and/or their joy becomes your joy. But even that joy can diminish over time.
The only lasting joy is the one we have in Jesus. In fact, the greatest present you can give your loved ones, family and friends is the joy, the satisfaction and the security you possess in Christ Jesus!
Do you possess these attributes? They can if you possess Him!
The LORD of heaven and earth desires that you know Him, not as a “genie in a bottle” where you get your three wishes and then put Him back in the bottle, but a real relationship, that of the metaphor of a shepherd.
The LORD of psalm 23 wants you to depend upon Him as your shepherd. The LORD of everything, the ‘I AM’ has come to you not only as Savior, but as a shepherd that has given His life for you so that you might possess heaven and that you may be satisfied in Him (heaven possesses you!). So that in return, in the present, you might follow His leading, His voice for your security and look to the future He has prepared for you!
Do you know the LORD of psalm 23? Do you know the shepherd of psalm 23? Then you know the satisfaction of being His lamb and your satisfaction is in following His leading. And because you follow Him you can experience the security knowing your present, future and eternity is secure in Him! Can you truly say “The LORD is my shepherd?!” If so, praise the Lord! If not, you can this moment! Don’t let this moment pass you by. Come to Jesus by faith and come to truly know Him as your shepherd. And “yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me…surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever!” - Amen!
