People can be fickle, even God’s people. Fickle defined as, “changing frequently, especially as regards one’s loyalties, interests, or affection.”
One minute we are on fire for the Lord and His church, the next minute, not so much. Maybe we get our feelings hurt, or have a disagreement on a certain matter, etc…. and so our affection wavers. There is one though that was never fickle - Jesus. As Jesus made His way to the cross (Via Dolorosa) to redeem mankind through His atonement on the cross, not once did He waver. Even as the crowd went from “Hosanna, Hosanna” to “crucify Him, crucify Him!”, not once did He waver or lose sight of His mission for mankind. Though He was falsely accused, beaten, scourged with the “cat of nine tails”, thorns driven into His head, slapped, spit upon, carried His own cross, mocked, laughed at, and lastly crucified on the old rugged cross - never once did His loyalty or affection for mankind waver! Jesus, the Son of Man, as the Son of God could have called thousands upon thousands upon ten thousand of angels to His side, but that call never came, instead we hear His words echoed from the cross, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.” (cf. Luke 23: 34) You see, Jesus came to save YOU and me, and that meant Jesus had to go to the cross. But never forget, Jesus willingly did that for YOU, because He loves YOU! His affection for you never changes - aren’t you glad Jesus is not fickle!?
Today, let’s examine ourselves and our affection for Jesus - He is worthy of the best of our time, talent and resources! “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain” - “You are worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power.”
In His Service,
Pastor Rodney
