Wisdom for the New Year - “make room for God’s word!”
I love that old hymn,The church’s Jubilee, by Charles Naylor - “The bible is our rule of faith and Christ alone is Lord!” If we are not sitting under the consistent preaching of God’s word, if we are not sitting consistently under the word for ourselves, we cannot make such claims.
God’s word is to be our final authority. God’s word is to be our plumb line (cf Amos 7:7), our standard to live and die by!
Jesus reminds you and me that “Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away!”
It is only by the help of the Holy Spirit and God’s word that we can make since out of life. I don’t have the answer for the tragedies we have already seen this new year but my thoughts and prayers are going out for all the families affected. Although I don’t understand, I believe with all my heart and soul that God is still sovereign even when we don’t understand. I want to encourage you to make room for God’s word as you make plans and set goals. God’s word gives us the history of mankind and his/her future with Him if we choose, and our future without Him if we choose. God has given each one of us the free will, free to choose how we shall live. Choose to live by the truth “it is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God’” (Jesus) or choose to live by the lie “you will not surely die.” (Devil)
The enemy is real (devil) and the battle is spiritual, but God is faithful and He is good. We have the power of God’s word, the authority of Jesus’ name and the help of the Holy Spirit to be overcomer’s! - “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me!” - “greater is He who is in you, then he who is in the world!”
May God help us as a nation, may God help the church at large, may God help you and me to return to trusting in the authority of scripture - “It is written!” - “thus says the Lord!”
God help us not to neglect His word this year but to give the Bible a central place!
“I will meditate on Your precepts, and contemplate Your ways. I will delight myself in Your statutes; I will not forget your Word.” - Psalm 119: 15-16
