    Holiness

    January 13, 2017

“Holiness”   God is Holy.  God’s Word is Holy (Holy Bible).  Holy men of God, through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit penned the Holy Bible.  God the Son, Jesus, the second person of the Trinity is Holy.  Heaven is a Holy place comprised of Holy people.  God has called His people to be Holy.

I am not writing on the topic of Holiness as if I have it perfected, I too....

"I AM" is sufficient for 2017

    January 6, 2017

I must admit that fresh into this New Year I find myself somewhat anxious  of what this year will bring to me, my family, the church, our Nation, and the world.   As a Christ follower, I must keep reminding myself that I am a person of faith, faith as defined in Hebrews 11 - “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen…By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.”   God has given me...

    Happy New Year - 2017

    December 31, 2016

God told Cain, “…sin lies at the door.  And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it.” (cf. Genesis 4: 7)   I know what your thinking, “not your typical scripture for the New Year” - and you would be right.  But as we say “goodbye” to 2016 and “hello” to 2017, I believe this text has much to say to us.  Our creator, out of His love, has given us each...

    The Christ In Christmas

    December 21, 2016

Merry “Christ”mas!   Who doesn’t like Christmas?!   Most of America and the world will be celebrating Christmas.  It is a very festive time.  A time of decorating the house with lights and erecting a tree, (some real, some artificial) adorning it with lights and ornaments.  There will meals shared and gifts exchanged.  It will be a time of...

    Your Greatest Gift - "You!"

    December 16, 2016

Evangelical Christians would agree that “Christ” is the “reason for the season”, or put another way, “Jesus is the subject”   Although Jesus is the subject, “mankind” is the object of His love - “For God so loved the world that He gave…” (John 3:16)   Our appropriate response should be like that of the wise men - “…and fell down and worshipped Him..they presented gifts to Him.” (Matthew 2: 11)  Christmas is a time of receiving and giving.  I can remember growing up...

    Born to YOU!

    December 9, 2016

“For there is born to (YOU) this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.” (Luke 2: 11)  There is nothing like new life coming forth!  I can still remember when my children were born.   Becky and I had such anticipation for their arrival (plus labor pains for Becky)!  When they...

    The Glory of The Lord

    December 1, 2016

“The Glory of the Lord shone around them…” (Luke 2: 9b)

How does one even start to explain or comprehend the Glory of God?!  Yes, we can read of the glory of God from Genesis to Revelation.  From God’s glory in the beginning illuminating the earth (His Shekinah Glory - “dwelling or settling of the divine presence of God”),… to God walking with Adam and Eve in the cool of the day,… to God descending upon Mount Sinai,… to God filling...

    Make Him Room

    November 25, 2016

One by one, I anticipated and waited for their arrival - my parents, my sister, my son, my daughter and son-in-law, my three grandchildren, my brother and sister-in-law.  We were going to be together today to enjoy a meal together and more importantly - each others presence.   These individuals (and others, that couldn’t be with us this day) not only came and occupied space in my home, but they...

    Developing an Attitude of Thanksgiving

    November 19, 2016

Good Morning, afternoon or evening!  This is the day the Lord has made, I will rejoice and “Be” glad in it!   I am “Thankful” that God is Sovereign.  We serve a God that neither slumbers nor sleeps - He knows our lying down, our rising up and all in between - He is in control!   God has said in His word, “While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, winter and summer, and day and night shall not cease.” (Genesis 8: 22)

Hard to believe, but Thanksgiving is next week and the start of the Advent season to follow.  The Holidays can be hard for people though.  Depression can...

It is said that you can survive 3-5 minutes without air, 10 days without water, 40 days without food, but - no one can survive without “Hope!”  I hope the colts win the supper bowl; I hope our economy turns around; I hope terrorism is defeated; I hope America repents and turns back to the God of the Bible; I hope my children and grandchildren live in a safe and prosperous America; I hope…..   But is this hope?  Is hope a “I hope so?” or “I know so!”  Yes, we should continue to...
